WOW...

I always get a kick out of Facebook friendships that cross paths in my life.  You know, like my college roommate that is friends with a girl I went to middle school with, or a guy I work with.  But today, I discovered one that blew my mind.

The following was posted from a girl on my Facebook.  Back story - this girl was our across the street neighbor in San Antonio, she married DJ's best friend and he joined the marines soon after.

Finally bought a frame for this: this note was written for Nick last year, by a young woman (around our age) in the airport. We were waiting for our flight, and this woman came up to us, grabbed Nick, hugged him close, and just began to cry uncontrollably. Once she calmed down, she told us her brother, another Marine, was just killed earlier that week, & never got to say goodbye to him. She apologized, talked for awhile, thanked Nick for his service, and handed us this note. What an amazing woman! She truly touched us that day. Words cannot describe how very proud we are to be a part of the Marine Family. OOHRAH!!

She was at an airport in San Diego going to see Nick graduate from bootcamp - in fact my mother was on the way as well.

I thought this would be a great story - expected to tear up as I always do for military stories.  I read the note all the way to the signature and lost it.  Emily Henwood... sister of Jeremy Henwood...  This is one of my closest friends from high school.  I know the person responsible for this letter.  Then I read again how long ago this letter was written. Then I recalled this story.  Her brother, back from Afghanistan that May, was shot assassination style in San Diego because he was a cop.  It was all over the news, and a horrible incident.  He was killed August 7, 2011... 7 days before she wrote Nick this note.  She was on her way back to Canada from her brother's funeral.

They honestly grew up less than 2 miles from each other - Emily & Angie & Nick.  But met in a time of mourning and celebration - both lives changed forever, but one young couple's lives improved for sure.

I can't stop looking at this letter, knowing the very strange circumstances that brought it about.  I'm not an overly religious person by any means, but God was definitely working wonders for both of these families that day.

WOW... I completely can't think of any other feelings than WOW.

ha ha - yes you are :)

its funny, last night I was at a party and Tim Engler was there, and then another girl who is going to work for Brandi Jones's mom next year was there and we all laughed at the small world.

Emily, the girl that wrote the letter, just messaged me and said that she has thought for 9 months now that she was so silly for going up to him - and that by me telling her he framed it, she realized that her brother is still trying to make her a better person. She was so happy to know that Nick appreciated her note. Such a fantastic story!
