cake decorating...

My Resolution this year is to learn something new each month.... so be prepared :)

January Learning Project: Cake Decorating!
~ Michael's had half off classes for this month since there aren't any students around. I had a gift card from Christmas & a 50% off coupon.. sounded like a PERFECT idea!

The first class was Last Tuesday - all we did was decorate cookies for 10 minutes... Not exactly too happy about that, but th booklet is pretty cool and the tools rock!

They sell you a "decorators kit" that you are supposed to buy, too bad they also added $100 worth of other stuff you have to buy once you get to the class... so much for a cheap learning project! Oh well... Tonight, I baked a cake, used my cake leveler to cut it in half and level it... and decorated it.

It was a carrot cake, so I tried to do carrots... All we learned about in class was how to make little stars, so this was all by the seat of my pants ;)

The spaghetti looking stuff was just what I did with the extra frosting... didn't want it to go to waste, but there is only 1 carrot I liked, but I do like the stars at the bottom of the cake!

Class is this Tuesday again where we'll learn how to do the cover layer of frosting (mine was horrible) and some piping! YAY! 2 of my friends joined the class too... so its super fun! YAHOO for learning!
